
Prior to US elections, US President Joe Biden made a final trip to Germany, where he urged NATO partners to continue supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russia, reports RTE.
Kyiv and its allies worry that if Donald Trump were to return to the White House, US military assistance would be cut off as Ukraine confronts a third winter at war and combat casualties in the east.
Western partners must “maintain our support… until Ukraine wins a just and sustainable peace,” according to Mr. Biden, reports RTE.
“This winter is going to be really challenging. We can’t slow down.”
According to Seoul’s intelligence service, North Korea has chosen to send a “large-scale” troop deployment to help Moscow’s battle, which is another concerning move for Ukraine.
It stated that 1,500 special soldiers were already training in eastern Russia, reports RTE.

Before French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer arrived at the chancellery for four-way discussions, Mr. Biden met with Chancellor Olaf Scholz during his one-day visit.
President Volodymyr Zelensky submitted his “victory plan” to NATO and the European Union yesterday, but his calls for quick NATO membership have not been accepted by his partners, reports RTE.
Ukrainian requests for authorisation to deploy donated long-range weaponry against targets within Russia have also been denied by Washington and London. Berlin’s own long-range Taurus missile system has not been sent.
“We are supporting Ukraine as powerfully as we can,” Mr. Scholz told reporters. And at the same time we are making sure that NATO does not become a party to the war, so that this war does not turn into an even bigger catastrophe,” reports RTE.
Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the United States has been by far the largest provider of military assistance to the country. The next largest supplier is Germany.
President Frank-Walter Steinmeier gave Mr. Biden Germany’s highest distinction for promoting bilateral and transatlantic cooperation and gave him a red carpet greeting earlier.
The 81-year-old Biden was hailed by the German chief of state as “a beacon of democracy” for his steadfast support of Ukraine and NATO “in our most dangerous moment since the Cold War,” reports RTE.
