In an attempt to reassure fellow Democrats who were shaken by the former president’s spectacular return, US President Joe Biden called on Americans to “bring down the temperature” on Thursday in the wake of Republican Donald Trump’s election triumph, reports Breaking News.
“It is impossible to avoid setbacks. At the White House Rose Garden, Mr. Biden told staff members who were upset over vice president Kamala Harris’ loss that “giving up is unforgivable.” “A defeat does not mean we are defeated.”
In an implied jab at Mr. Trump, who attempted to reverse his 2020 loss to Mr. Biden and made unfounded allegations of fraud this year as well, Mr. Biden stated that Tuesday’s election had demonstrated the integrity of the US political system and that he would oversee a peaceful handover of power.
“We lost this battle. The America of your dreams is calling for you to get back up,” he said, reports Breaking News.
Ms. Harris’ loss has been attributed by some Democrats on Mr. Biden, 81, who they claim should not have run for reelection. Only after a humiliating TV debate with Mr. Trump sparked doubts about his mental health did Mr. Biden withdraw his candidacy for reelection in July.
According to Mr. Trump’s team, Mr. Biden extended an invitation to meet with him at the White House at an undisclosed time. Mr. Trump will choose who will report to him in the coming weeks.
Ms. Harris tried to comfort supporters on Wednesday. She urged Democrats to keep fighting for their beliefs, but like Biden, she pledged to support Mr. Trump’s transition prior to his January 20th inauguration, reports Breaking News.
