Met Éireann have issued a yellow status snow ice warning for 20 counties.
The warning which will come into affect from 7am on Thursday comes as the forecaster revealed that their will be widespread ice across the country along with 3cm of snow on high ground.
There will also be snow in low lying areas although it is not expected to last. Met Eireann say the wintery conditions will affect counties in Munster, Connacht, Leinster and Ulster.
The national forecaster is also advising motorists to take extra precautions as there will be widespread frost and ice on the nations roads.
