Greyhound races throughout the country have been suspended for the weekend due to the high temperatures that are expected.
According to RTE, the decision was taken by Greyhouse Racing Ireland (GRI) in light of the fact that temperatures soared to 30C and these temperatures are expected to continue over the weekend. It is expected that races in Northern Ireland will also be cancelled.
Guidelines have been issued by the GRI regarding the care of racing greyhounds. Extra water points and greyhound baths are being put in place at racing grounds and owners have been advised to ensure that good ventilation is in place.
GRI is expected to consider the situation again on Monday and will update things as and when temperatures drop.
