The Irish Red Cross says that some 25,000 people have registered pledges to take Ukrainian refugees into their home over the coming weeks.

Staff say that they’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity of the Irish public. The breakdown is said to be 70% from a house share setup whereas 30% are said to be people with a second home that’s available.

Everyone who has pledged to take refugees in will be phoned over the coming week and their house will be examined over the coming week to ensure that it’s up to scratch.

It’s understood that refugees will be staying from 6 months to a year minimum.
