SpaceX has been awarded a multi-million contract by NASA to launch a probe to Jupiter’s moon Europa.
Elon Musk’s company will use its Falcon Heavy rocket to power the Clipper Europa mission to the icy world.
Launch is scheduled for October 2024, and if everything goes according to plan, the probe would arrive in Jupiter’s orbit in April 2030.
The mission involves up to 50 flybys around Europa over the course of four years.
Europa is known to harbor an ocean of liquid water under its frozen surface, and has long been considered a possible host for alien life.
