Workers at the Oberstown youth detention centre in Dublin have voted overwhelmingly in favor of industrial action due to continuous threats and violent attacks suffered throughout last year.
It is understood that employees reported over 100 instances of violent behavior over the last year alone. 91% of staff have now voted in favor of industrial action.
The Oberstown facility now houses children and crucially, teenagers. Staff have said that the facility is badly designed, and that its units are built in such a way that they pose substantial risk for offenders and staff.
