Stag parties in Carrick-on-Shannon could soon become a thing of the past with new bye-laws

download (1)If you’re planning a stag weekend to Carrick-on-Shannon, don’t get too excited. Carrick-on-Shannon is a favourite destination for stag and hen weekends. Tourism is a profitable micro-economy for the area.

However, this could soon be a thing of the past as the Joint Policing Committee hopes seeks to introduce new laws that would prohibit that carrying of bottles and glasses down the Carrick-on-Shannon’s Main Street.

The plan has been proposed in a bid to reduce injuries from broken glass and assaults where pint glasses and bottles are used as weapons.

The plans will not effect drinking times in the town, and the festivals in Carrick-on-Shannon will not be affected as they are covered by special licensing permissions. The Joint Policing Committee are aiming to implement the new regulations by the third quarter of next year.
