Brussels and London have reached an impasse after the British government has stated it will not go back on its decision to keep the Northern Ireland border open post Brexit.
The EU however, has emphatically rejected this plan by the British government to keep their border with the Republic of Ireland relatively the same. An EU official speaking to the Daily Telegraph in Brussels said that the EU had offer a “forensic rebuttal” of the UK’s proposals.
The British government has said that it will nevertheless continue to work on the proposals set forth and suggested that it the EU genuinely wishes to reach an agreement it could be done so in a few months.
Meanwhile the largest party in Northern Ireland, the DUP, which is a confidence and supply agreement with the conservative party to allow them to remain in government has said there will be absolutely no special economic arrangement that would see it separated from Britain.
This has been prosed as a solution to a hard border between The Republic of Ireland and the North, which the EU is demanding.
