
The latest episode of Star Wars, The Force Awakens, was premiered one day ago and it’s already breaking important box office records, and it’s on its way to become one of the biggest hits in movie history.
The film reached $57 million just on its first day, Thursday December 17th, topping the second part of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’ record of $43.5 millions. It has also passed by more than double the previous IMAX record of $3 millions, by achieving $5.7 millions.
In Ireland, the film positioned itself as the biggest opening day of all time. Other countries where The Force managed to do this were Germany, Australia, Brazil, New Zealand, Belgium, Finland, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland (French-speaking), Austria, Ukraine, Slovakia, Croatia, Iceland, Serbia, Chile, Peru. It was also the biggest single day of all times for the Irish cinema.
It is expected that the film continues filling theatres to make its way until the highest grossing films of all times.
