In a widely expected achievement, the latest movie in the long running Star Wars franchise has zoomed past Avatar to become the top grossing film of all time in North America.
According to Disney, The Force Awakens grossed $758.2 million (€698.38 million) through Tuesday, when it took in $8 million (€7.37 million), and yesterday it finally surpassed the $760.5 million (€700.50 million) earned by James Cameron’s Avatar.
And with the movie just on the brink of being released to the Chinese market, its earnings are expected to soar even higher.
