After ten hours of voting, sampling of turnout statistics show that voting in the Northeast has remained consistent throughout the day, with turnout in many polling places ranging from 20 to 25 percent, reports RTE.
Meath
This afternoon, voter turnout in Meath varied from 17% at a voting place in Ashbourne to over 21.6% at a polling place in Trim.
Navan, the county town, is at 20%, Stamullen is at 23%, and Ashbourne is at 17%.
The turnout in the commuter towns of Dunboyne and Dunshaughlin is 19.5% and 18%, respectively, reports RTE.
Additionally, Trim, a historic town, had a 21.6% turnout.
Cavan
There has been a notable increase in participation in Cavan, in both rural and urban regions.
According to some polling places, at least one in five registered voters had already used their right to vote, reports RTE.
At Ballyconnell Central NS and St. Clare’s NS in Cavan Town, the turnout was 23% and less than 20%, respectively, at 3:30 p.m.
By midday, Belturbet was already above 20% and continuing to rise, reports RTE.
Monaghan
At 4.30 p.m., the average turnout in Monaghan was 20%.
The average attendance this afternoon in Castleblayney and Clones is around 23%.
Louth
Throughout the afternoon, voter attendance has also been increasing throughout County Louth.
According to reports, St Nicholas’ Primary School in Dundalk has a 27% attendance rate, reports RTE.
