A Fine Gael MEP candidate has come under fire from Minister Eamon Ryan for allegedly seeking “political advantage” in criticising climate change policy, reports Breaking News.
Following remarks made in recent days on mobility and climate action, the head of the Green Party attacked the candidate of his coalition partner in the Dublin constituency.
The Mail On Sunday was informed by Regina Doherty, a former minister and former Meath TD for Fine Gael, that she would serve as a “watchdog in Europe to mark the Greens” if elected. She also accused the party of splitting Dublin like East and West Berlin, reports Breaking News.

Ms. Doherty accused the Green Party of having a “autocratic style” and asserted that some of the new cycle lanes in Dublin were “actually dangerous” during Tuesday night’s RTÉ Prime Time debate. Ciarán Cuffe, the Green Party’s MEP candidate for Dublin, responded by accusing Ms. Doherty of using language that was “going back 30 years, it’s living in the past.”
When questioned about the remarks made on Wednesday, Mr. Ryan defended the party’s record on climate change and noted that he has consistently underlined over the years that “wagging the finger” should not be the response to climate change, reports Breaking News.
The minister of the environment and transport said that he thought the party’s level of support “might surprise people” on Friday and that some of the candidates for office were more “nihilist” than “far-right.”
“There is no arrogance in the approach that we’re taking to climate,” he said, as he accused Ms Doherty of seeing “political advantage in attacking us”, reports Breaking News.
