Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro said that the severity of the coronavirus pandemic was exaggerated and urged his people to stop being “sissies” in relation to Covid-19 and stressed that “we will all die one day.”
In a ceremony on Tuesday to mark the resumption of tourism in Brazil, Bolsonaro called the response to the Covid-19 pandemic disproportionate. The death toll from the virus in Brazil has reached 162,000.
He added that “everything is now a pandemic” and that Brazil is part of a global wave of “closing things down”.
“Everyone is going to die. There is no point in escaping from that, in escaping from reality. We have to stop being a country of sissies.”
