“Stop using oil” – Two thugs arrested after throwing tomato soup over Van Gogh masterpiece then gluing their hands to the wall

Two people were arrested for vandalism and aggravated trespassing before officers began “pulling off” their hands taped to the wall.

Just Stop Oil activists threw tomato soup over Van Gogh’s masterpiece Sunflowers at the National Gallery.

Two women entered a gallery space in London’s Trafalgar Square around 11am, the campaign group said. They poured the contents of two Heinz tomato soup cans into the famous 1888 painting, which is believed to be worth £72.5million.

The police arrested two people for property damage and serious trespassing. The National Gallery said the painting’s frame was “minorly damaged” but the work was “undamaged” and is now on display again.

According to SKY, One of the climate activists, 21-year-old Phoebe Plummer, exclaimed: “What’s worth more? art or life?

Friday marks the 14th day of protests linked to the group wanting the government to stop issuing all new oil and gas licenses.

Activists from the group have blocked roads around Parliament and elsewhere in London in recent days. Last Sunday, police said more than 100 people had been arrested after a weekend of protest activities
environment groups.

At the protest at the National Gallery, Ms Plummer said: “Are you more concerned with protecting a painting? Or to protect our planet and our people?

“The cost of living crisis is part of the cost of oil crisis., reported SKY.

“Fuel is unaffordable to millions of cold hungry families. They can’t even afford to heat a tin of soup,” she added, brandishing a tin.”, SKY reports.
