There has been a stern warning from the Irish Coast Guard for members of the public to not put themselves or emergency personnel’s lives are risk by staying well away from open piers and cliff edges.

They’ve advised people to steer clear of beaches, piers, cliff edges, harbour walls and promenades while Storm Diana rages through the country.

Met Eireann have issued two orange status weather warnings for today as Storm Diana approaches this morning as gusts are expected to reach 130kp/h.

Met Eireann say the warnings will apply to counties Cork, Kerry and Waterford and are in effect from 6am until at least midday.

Meanwhile an orange status warning will be in place for Wexford, Galway and Clare from 9am until 2pm.
