Storm Gertrude set to inflict the knock-out blow to the country on New Year’s Day

Vast swathes of terrain across the Emerald Island have become waterlogged wastelands over the past 36 hours, after Storm Frank’s wrath proved to be a formidable foe.

Main streets have turned into maelstroms, town centres into lagoons. Life for many residents will never be the same.

Yet, Nature’s about to send yet another storm our way; Storm Gertrude is on course to administer the coup de grace to a country already on its knees. It will hit us on New Year’s Day, according to Met Eireann, bringing strong winds of up to 110km/h and a band of very heavy rain that will sweep northwards throughout the day.

It will be a cold day also, with temperatures ranging from 6-10C.

Meanwhile, our Taoiseach is enjoying his Christmas break to the fullest, seemingly oblivious to the devastation happening all around. Mr. Kenny has not been seen or heard of in any of the devastated areas since the start of the crisis.
