Strike chaos: Up to 100,000 commuters will be left stranded next Monday as Bus Eireann confirm they’re striking

Trade union chiefs at Bus Eireann have confirmed that an all out strike will take place next Monday with pickets outside depots.

They had threatened the industrial action unless management changed their stance regarding the upcoming cost cutting measures.

The announcement of all out strike action which will cause chaos to thousands of commuters, comes after talks between management and union members broke down after a compromise was unable to be reached regarding the restructuring of pay and services.

It is understood that staff at the company are unhappy about the decision by management that will see €12m in cost cutting measures being implemented in the coming weeks ahead.

Under current proposals management want to cut pay all across the board whilst cutting a number of bus routes along with eliminating it’s costly express way service. Bosses at the company say the new measures must be implemented in order to save the company from being made insolvent in less than two years.

However staff argue that the cuts are unjustified and believe they deserve more information regarding the new cost cutting measures.

No salaries are affected by the proposals by Bus Eireann. They say they have no option but to impose the new measures as the company is currently losing a staggering €50,000 a DAY!
