Students union alarmed at the rise in the number of students seeking counselling

There are growing concerns amongst students and lecturers about the high increase in students seeking counselling.

According to a new report there is currently a six month waiting list for third level students seeking to see a counsellor.

The news comes after the Union of Students in Ireland found that on average students are waiting 183 days to receive professional help.

The figures mark a 41% increase in students seeking counselling. Senior officials in the union say the cuts are due to cuts in funding.
