Hopes of a long, warm summer have all been dashed today with the appearance of damp and showery weather.
After being lulled into a false sense of security over the last few days of fine and dry weather, wet and windy conditions will reeturn this weekend, and continue into next week.
There will be some patchy sunny spells today, and the thermometer will hover around the 16-20C mark. Heavy rain is expected on Saturday night.
Sunday will see even heavier showers, with strong winds also blighting the country. Monday will also be a wet and windy day, and the forecast is uncertain beyond that.
