SwingGate: Fine Gael TD Fergus O’Dowd says Maria Bailey should not stand in the next General Election

Fine Gael TD Fergus O Dowd has said that he thinks Maria Bailey should stand in the next General Election.

Speaking to LMFM, the Louth TD said that he would prefer that Ms Bailey didn’t stand but reiterated that he couldn’t influence such a decision.

O’Dowd who was speaking about the recent SwingGate scandal said that he thinks that Ms Bailey shouldn’t stand as many people are believing what she did was wrong and she has to face the reality of that.

He added that recent press reports have suggested that people in her own party in the Dún

Laoghaire constituency don’t want her to stand and she now faces a difficult situation.

Before stating he personally wouldn’t feel comfortable if Ms Bailey chose to run in the next election following scandal.

O’Dowd’s comments come after Ms Bailey was recently ousted from her role as the Chair Oireachtas Housing Committee.
