SwingGate: Fine Gael’s Maria Bailey said she won’t bow to keyboard warriors as thousands call for her to resign

Forget the election, Maria Bailey’s infamous swing accident is all that people are talking about.

As thousands upon thousands of people across Ireland are forced to pay enormous insurance premiums that many believe are from dubious claims, Bailey faces major backlash for taking a case against the Dean Hotel for falling off an indoor swing in July 2015.

Bailey has dropped her claims against the hotel but that won’t cut it with the public as thousands have signed a petition calling for her to resign.

Bailey said on RTE’s Sean O’Rourke: “This has been a hugely distressing intrusive abusive week that my family and I have succumbed to, completely unwarranted through leaked documents.

“It was a closed file. It was not for public information.”

She said that she won’t be “bowing down to keyboard warriors and bullies”.

“What I and my family have been subjected to is incredible,” she said.

“I am a strong female politician and some people don’t like that.”

The petition can be signed here and has already some 2,500 signatures and is aimed at getting 5,000.
