The Russian Parliament, largely a symbolic institution that effectively exists with the sole purpose of doing Vladimir Putin’s bidding, has reportedly passed legislation banning LGBT ‘propaganda’ across the country.
The amended legislation specifies that anyone caught ‘promoting or praising homosexual relationships as normal’ faces stiff penalties.
Individuals could be fined up to 400,000 rubles ($6,600), while legal entities can be fined up to 5 million rubles ($82,100). Any foreigners could be arrested for up to 15 days or deported.
