According to the Sinn Féin leader, the Dáil was given inaccurate information last week regarding the age of the adolescent who was sent an improper text by former Sinn Féin Senator Niall Ó Donnghaile, reports RTE.
According to information given when they joined Ógra Sinn Féin, Mary Lou McDonald stated that at the time, she believed the young person to be 17 years old.
According to her, the young individual has subsequently said unequivocally that they were sixteen years old, reports RTE.
The young individual and their mother have received a letter from Ms. Lou McDonald expressing her genuine and complete apologies, she informed the Dáil.

“What happened was wrong, and no young person should have to go through that,” she added, reports RTE.
She also expressed regret for whatever damage her remarks during Mr. Ó Donnghaile’s resignation last December had caused.
“That was never my intention and I apologise to that person for issuing that statement,” she stated.
Michelle O’Neill, the first minister of Northern Ireland and the deputy leader of Sinn Féin, has also updated the Stormont record on the adolescent boy’s age, reports RTE.
Ms. O’Neill stated this morning in the Assembly chamber that she “fully accepted” the age and want to update the record.
“This information was wrong. Over the weekend the young person made it clear that he was in fact 16 at the time and I fully accept this,” she added.
“This morning I want to put on the record that he was in fact 16 years of age when these inappropriate texts were sent,” reports RTE.
