Tanaiste dismisses claims of row over US President Donald Trump’s visit

The Tánaiste Simon Coveney has dismissed claims that the Irish Government and White House officals are loggerheads over the location selection for President Trump’s visit.

Speaking to RTÉ’s This Week in Politics programme, the Tánaiste revealed that reports of a disagreement between the two parties is greatly exaggerated and untrue.

Coveney who said the Government are preparing for a potential visit, told the programme that the delay is down to a scheduling issue within the White House.

The Tánaiste said there is no disagreement over Doonbeg, but instead White House officals are still working out the schedule for his EU visit.

Coveney’s comments come after reports circulated last week suggesting that the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and the Government would rather a meeting between the two leaders take place at Dromoland Castle, rather than President Trump’s private residence of Doonbeg.
