The Tánaiste Joan Burton has gone one step further in her latest criticisms as she has openly slammed a cabinet sub-committee which she herself is currently a member of.
Ms Burton says she fully understands the reasons as to why the Economic Management Council featuring the Taoiseach, Tánaiste and two finance ministers was setup, but now believes that the committee is completely outdated, and claims there is more to life than economics.
Ms Burton said: “One of the things, when you’re focusing exclusively on economic decisions is that you need to have a very solid briefing in relation to the social consequences of any economic decisions, both in terms of the positive consequences, people going back to work, and the negative consequences, difficulties, for particular social sectors.”
