Tanaiste rules out lifting restrictions by county basis saying case numbers aren’t not low enough

The Tanaiste Leo Varadkar has ruled out the possibility of lifting Covid-19 restrictions by a county by county basis saying that numbers aren’t low enough.

Speaking in the Dail, the Tanaiste said there currently is no county with a low enough incidence rate to consider easing restrictions.

Varadkar went on to say that it will be very hard to get the number of cases below 500 as we dealing with a very different variant.

The Tanaiste said that even with a strong public effort getting numbers down to those last summer isn’t possible as we are dealing with a much more transmissible variant.

He added that although he is hopeful on the summer, both he and the Government are worried about the next few weeks as cases seem to be increasing here and across Europe.
