Tanaiste says indoor and outdoor dining could return by mid summer

The Tanaiste Leo Varadkar has said that the phased reopening of the hospitality sector could begin by mid summer with both indoor and outdoor dining on the cards.

Speaking to RTE, the Tanaiste said that although he does not want to give false hope he is hopeful that the sector could return in June and July.

Varadkar said that the Government will not make a decision on the further reopening of society until the end of April, he did state that the country is on track to ease restrictions beginning on the 4th of May.

However the Tanaiste did warn that the potential easing of restrictions would depend on case numbers, hospital admissions and the vaccine roll-out.

Speaking about the vaccine roll-out Varadkar said that he and the Government are confident that 80% of the population will receive at least one dose of the vaccine by June.
