Tanaiste says vaccinations in the over 70s will be slower

The Tanaiste Leo Varadkar has said that vaccinations in the over 70s will be slower following a decision not to use the AstraZeneca vaccine in that particular age group.

Speaking in the Dail, Varadkar said GP’s will offer the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines to those in that particular age group as there currently isn’t enough data to determine the effectiveness of the AstraZeneca vaccine in the over 70s.

The Tanaiste said that although there will be changes to the Covid-19 vaccine roll-out they only constraints to administering the vaccine will be supply.

He added the administering of the vaccine in the over 70s may be slower.
