Tanaiste says we’re entering a fourth wave and there could be up to 4,000 cases a day

The Tanaiste Leo Varadkar has warned that the country is heading into a fourth wave and Covid-19 cases could drastically increase in the coming weeks.

Speaking outside Dublin Castle, the Tanaiste warned that Ireland could see itself in a similar scenario to that of Scotland a few weeks where 3,000 to 4,000 caess were reported each day.

The Tanaiste warned that hospital admissions are expected to rise to in the region of 500 people with 50 or more people being admitted to ICU.

Although Varadkar said the wave would see such numbers it is hoped that numbers would fall back once we passed the peak.
