Tanaiste: We’re planning on how we could isolate as many people as possible in ICU if needs be

Simon Coveney has said that if even if 1% of 2 million people in Ireland get coronavirus and die, that’s a lot of people.

In terms of trying to manage the health crisis of this, we’re going to try and look after the most vulnerable, the elderly, those with underlying illnesses.

He said our role in government is provide the best response that we can but many, many people now are saying that not enough is being done.

Coveney said that the government is not closing off airports, flights, schools or colleges at this time but has strongly advised people to be cautious against any travel to any EU country.

We’ll be making decisions on the basis of public health advice.
