The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said the Department of Health will consider the possibility of keeping a mobile cath lab at University Hospital Waterford.
In a brief statement made in the Dáil on Tuesday, Mr Varadkar said it would be a logical decision to keep the unit in the hospital as recent figures suggest it has improved conditions for patients who need cardiac treatment.
The Taoiseach’s comments come after Junior Minister John Halligan issued further calls to keep the unit in place in the region.
It is expected the temporary mobile unit will be removed from the hospital next week.
