Taoiseach claims that an United Ireland is now further away following RIC commemoration ceremony controversy

The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said that he believes that hopes of a future United Ireland have been dealt a setback in wake of the recent controversy surrounding the Royal Irish Constabulary commemoration ceremony.

According to RTÉ News, the Taoiseach said that although the Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan made the right call to defer the event, he believes that the controversy surrounding hosting the ceremony was unnecessary.

The Taoiseach who said he hopes that the ceremony can be held in the future, claimed that its opposition showed that a United Ireland is now further away.

Although he fully believes that an United Ireland could happen in his life time, the Taoiseach stated that the entire island must remember our shared history.
