The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has confirmed that an independent review will take place at the National Maternity Hospital.
It is understood the review comes after an unborn baby was misdiagnosed as having a “fatal, foetal abnormality”, which resulted in a couple having an abortion in March.
The confirmation of the review comes after the Taoiseach was questioned on the matter in the Dáil.
Responding to questioning by Aontu’s Peadar Tóibín, the Taoiseach said his heart went out to the couple involved.
He added that the review will be carried out by Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in the UK.
