Taoiseach emphatically defends his own worthiness to be paid €3,500 weekly

‘Am I worth (my own) salary? Very much so!’, Enda Kenny cheerily announced at the launch of the new Low Pay Commission today.

The Taoiseach answered very enthusiastically when queried whether he thought he was worthy of receiving such astronomical amount of money for his role as the country’s leader.

Yet, on the same breath, he announced that the minimum wage of €8.65 per hour will be amended ‘incrementally’ over time.

The newly formed Low Pay Commission will report its findings back in July next.

However, the signs do not bode well for those unlucky enough to not be Taoiseach of Ireland, and thus be forced to eke out a far more meager living on an average industrial wage.

Business group IBEC has already stated that although the commission is welcomed, there is currently ‘no basis’ for altering the current minimum wage.

In other words, the status quo must be ‘very much so!’ preserved, as our proud Taoiseach would put it.
