On two separate occasions the Taoiseach turned down opportunities to state whether he would keep his promise and put an end to the high number of patients spending hours on hospital trolleys.

He first made this promise in his first campaign as Fine Gael leader in 2007.

Twice in a recent interviewed Enda Kenny was asked if he would repeat his ambitious promise in his campaign in 2016.

However the Taoiseach merely stated that “it is always stressful for families when these things happen”

He refused to confirm if he would repeat the promise and carry out the neccessary actions to complete his promise.

The Taoiseach went on to say ” Obviously there are always challenges, the numbers have fallen now in relation to trolley lists, we would like to see that continue to reduce, so that  you have the minimum number applying”
