Taoiseach faces protests during book launch at Mansion House

It’s out of the frying pan and into the fire for Government representatives this weekend.

The Taoiseach himself took a fair amount of flak at the end of a book launch at Mansion House in Dublin today.

A group of about 80 protesters had gathered outside and greeted his exit with chants of ‘Kenny, Kenny, Kenny, out, out, out’ and ‘Shame on you, shame on you.’

The group were also bearing anti-water charges banners and were beating drums. Minor scuffles broke out, and some men had to be physically held back by Gardai. The Taoiseach eventually sped away in an official car.

The issue of water charges has now become a serious thorn on the Government’s side, one that will slowly sink deeper and deeper until it punctures the Cabinet’s very core, causing the Coalition to implode.
