Taoiseach Leo Varadkar says he is appalled by the leaking of the CervicalCheck Scally report

The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said that he is appalled and sadned to hear that the report reviewing the ongoing CervicalCheck scandal had been leaked before the victims and their families were informed.

Speaking to RTÉ, Mr Varadkar said the leaking of the report which is due to be presented today was highly insensitive and was unjustified.

Mr Varadkar who is expected to review the report along with the Minister for Health Simon Harris also said the leaking of the report was highly insensitive as it affects a number of people including ill patients, victims and their families.

The Taoiseach added that an inquiry into the leaking of the report will take place.

Meanwhile it is reported that Dr Scally has outlined 50 recommendations in the report and has suggested that the Government should focus on carrying them out rather than ordering a commission of inquiry.

However the Taoiseach has argued that although it may take years to carry out an inquiry, there should be one in order to provide clarity to all those caught up in the scandal.
