The Taoiseach Micheal Martin has said that Level 5 restrictions have worked but there has been no decision on the potential lifting of restrictions on April 5th.
Speaking in the Dail, Martin said that the country had worked very hard to reduce the number of cases, but unfortunately we still remain in a very fragile position.
The Taoiseach said that there has been 3,800 cases reported in the past week and that number is still too high.
He also said that we are dealing with a more transmissible variant of the virus and we don’t want to end up back in a situation where there are 2,000 people in hospital.
Martin told the Dail that he and the Government are aware how difficult and stressful the current restrictions have been on people’s lives, but we still remain in a very fragile position.
