Taoiseach Enda Kenny has this evening performed an act of political contrition by withdrawing some comments he made about the shredding of certain documents relating to the controversial Bank Guarantee.
He had suggested that some documents had ‘disappeared in the Department’. These comments were made in 2011, shortly after he came into office.
Mr. Kenny said “I accept that and if I’ve caused any offence about that then I certainly withdraw it,” Kenny told TDs, later repeating “I withdraw that, I withdraw that, I withdraw that.”
The Taoiseach’s statement comes just ahead of the first public hearings of the Banking Inquiry tomorrow morning.
