Taoiseach says he knows that the pandemic has been difficult for young people and indoor restrictions aim to protect not to divide society

The Taoiseach has said that he knows that the Covid-19 pandemic has been difficult for everyone and young people in particular, but the latest restrictions around indoor dining aim to protect not to divide society.

Speaking in the Dail, the Taoiseach said that he knows that the latest announcement has come as blow to those working in the hospitality sector, but the Delta variant is a very serious threat.

Martin told Ministers that NPHET’s advice is that the Delta variant is far more transmissible and that it can very much become the dominant strain not only Ireland but across Europe as well.

He added that his motive and the Government’s is to protect people and not to divide them.
