Taoiseach says HSE must manage resources made available to them in order to avoid Christmas overcrowding

The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has once again given his opinion on how the winter trolley crisis should be handled by telling the HSE to properly manage resources over the festive period.

Mr Varadkar who was heavily criticised for comments regarding staff taking extended leave over the Christmas period, said it makes common sense to match peak demand with peak resources.

Speaking in Finland, the Taoiseach said the Health Service Executive should be properly deploying resources that were made available to them over the past few years.

Mr Varadkar who has since defended his comments over extended Christmas leave for medical professionals, also claimed that the current crisis won’t be resolved if the government continue to throw money at the problem even though resources aren’t being properly managed.

The Taoiseach urged the HSE to take control of the situation and implement the proper management process.
