Taoiseach says return to Covid-19 measures are not justified – NIAC are expected to give 4th dose advice in the coming days

The Taoiseach Micheal Martin has said the return to Covid-19 measures are not justified as the current wave is not damaging the health system.

Speaking on RTE Radio, the Taoiseach said the introduction of measures such as mandatory mask wearing in public settings will not be needed as the current variant is not damaging the health system as much as previous variants.

Although Martin acknowledged that the wearing of face masks is an important measure, he did state that it will remain  optional rather than mandatory for the time being as it is subject to public health advice.

Meanwhile the National Immunisation Advisory Committee are expected to give recommendations on a fourth dose of the Covid-19 vaccine in the coming days.

It is expected that NIAC will outline their recommendations for the second booster as other countries in Europe and around the world have begun issuing advice in regards to the rollout of the vaccine.
