Speaking on RTE radio with Claire Byrne, Martin said that the Government is essentially told what to do by public health advice in relation to Covid-19. He confirmed that he’s still talking to Dr Tony Holohan in relation to what to do in the fight against covid.
Martin said the BA2 variant is highly transmissible, but that it doesn’t damage health in the same way as earlier variants.
The Taoiseach said that the high number of cases is putting intense pressure on the healthcare system but that there is no need to reintroduce restrictions on the Irish public. He said no restrictions, such as enforcing mask wearing on indoor settings will be brought back in.
