Taoiseach says we haven’t reached the peak of the Delta wave

The Taoiseach Micheal Martin has warned that we haven’t yet reached the peak of the Delta wave as Covid-19 cases continue to rise.

Speaking about the latest numbers, the Taoiseach said that although we expected an increase we still haven’t reached the peak of the wave which is a cause for concern.

Martin who urged the public to continue following public health guidelines, also said that both the Government and NPHET are concerned about the current rise in cases and its impact on hospitalisations and admissions to ICU across the country.

The Taoiseach who called on the public to remain vigilant, also praised the Covid-19 vaccine rollout saying vaccination is key to ending the pandemic.

However he stated that unfortunately young people are yet to recieve full protection as they have been vaccinated much later than older cohorts.
