Up to 70,000 homes across Ireland might be underwater by 2050 unless the country’s approach to climate change shifts dramatically now, according to a leading scientist.
Richard Cantwell, a senior Spatial Data Scientist at Gamma Location Intelligence, contributed to a recent climate report that makes a stark prediction for Ireland.
The report says that temperatures are expected to rise by as much as 2C by 2050, which would mean waters rising by about a metre worldwide. If this comes to pass, much of Ireland’s east coast might just vanish underwater.
