Taoiseach Enda Kenny is taking severe flak today due to a severely diminished Garda force, which may have played a part in enabling a six-men team to raid the Regency Hotel in Drumcondra completely unhindered, and the latest gangland shooting in Dublin last night, which ended up with 50-year-old Edie Hutch being shot dead at his home.
In the wake of these two bloody incidents, the Garda Representative Association (GRA) has raised serious concerns about the ability of the current Garda structure to counteract or prevent gang activity.
Though Mr. Kenny has yet to make an official statement on these events, a spokesman released a statement on his behalf this morning, saying: “The Taoiseach and the Minister for Justice have been in ongoing regular contact on these issues.
“As previously stated they are of one mind that no resources will be spared in the hunt for the perpetrators of these appalling acts.
“The Minister for Justice will continue to update on further developments.”
