There was welcome display at Dublin Airport Las night as newly crowned world boxing champion Michael Conlan returned home to a rapturous greeting from family friends who showed their support for the Belfast native.
Michael who became Ireland’s first male world champion after beating Uzbekistan’s Murodjon Akhmadaliev in the World Amateur Boxing Championships in Qatar earlier this week, was cheered and greeted by fans as arrived in Dublin late last night. The Northern Irishman was also met by his family who were delighted to see him as they greeted him with hugs and kisses, a clearly delighted Michael also posed for a number of photographs including this one with his baby daughter who was clearly more interested in his gold medal. (How cute?) The new AIBA world champ was also honoured at Belfast City Hall earlier today were thank he thanked his home support for all their unstinting encouragement as he defeated all before him to take the title.
Conlon is also expected to visit a number of places throughout Ireland in the coming days to pay tribute to those who supported him during his winning campaign.
