Drug lord and head of the Sinaloa cartel, El Chapo has been injured while narrowly escaping capture. According to Mexican authorities, Joaquin Guzman also known as El Chapo suffered injuries to the leg and face during his escape.
El Chapo which translates to ‘Shorty’ escaped his prison cell in July through a mile long tunnel. Authorities have been hunting the criminal down ever since.
US Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson is confident that Guzman will be caught. Mr Johnson said: “With regard to El Chapo, our government, the US government has pledged its support to the Mexican government in the search for him. We continue to pledge that support and I am confident he will be found. I believe he will be found.”
Guzman had previously evaded capture for years in the rugged mountains of Sinaloa state after he escaped from another maximum security prison in 2001.
