Sarah Jane Johnston has doubled the amount of medals she’s won at the Special Olympics.
The Armagh swimmer has brought the total of medals won by Irish competitors up to four only two days into
the competition.
Ms Johnston, who won bronze in the 100m freestyle race had also won third place in the backstroke competition two days ago on Sunday.
Other Irish competitors won ribbons in bowling and swimming with many others achieving personal bests, such as Lorraine Hession from Galway.
The 27 year old was awarded a fourth place ribbon for achieving a personal best in another 100m freestyle category.
Irish bowling players were very successful also, being awarded sixth place ribbons in the bowling competition.
A Dundalk man, James Meenan achieved a personal best in the 100m heats.
Michael Conboy from Galway city, Anita O’Connor from Carlow, Sean Campbell from Coleraine Co Derry and John Rowan from Rathnew Co Wicklow all won sixth place ribbons.
The Special Olympics are held until the 2nd of August.
There are Irish athletes competing in twelve categories in total.
